such a good thriller was on the edge of my seat most of the book

Monkeys

It says, on the front cover of this book, that it is a novel. If it is, then it just barely is. It reads more like a group of short stories with the same characters. It lacks the cohesiveness. And even from section to section, there is rarely any resolution of closure to the situation discussed. In one of the first stories, the children and their mother are all hiding from the father when he comes in. but he does not go looking for them, and just sits down. He children and the mother wait for a while and that’s where the section ends. I had to go back and reread the end as I thought I missed something. And, unfortunately I did not really enjoy the stories either.

Something Special

Ironically, this book could have been called “Nothing Special” as there was really northing to it. A young Irish girl goes out on a date with a man she does not like. She is revolted by all his choices and attempts to please her and to keep her safe. When they are finally alone in a park and he tries to tell her how he feels, she runs away in horror, only to return home and tell her mom that she will marry him. ??

A good book

The Midnight Feast

This was a really good book, and what I particularly appreciated is what a great job the author did with delivering current day scenes with past scenes, all with seemingly different people (can’t say more about that without giving the plot away) and keeping them very clear and well defined. While seemingly this book appears to be about a woman who has opened the high-end retreat of her dreams, it is really about the past and disrespect for the local town coming back with a vengeance.

a great book

Of Mice And Men

It’s interesting to go back and read something that you read as a child when you are an adult. You bring to the experience a whole new perspective. I remember reading this when I was in school and only seeing the superficial aspects. This time around I enjoyed it much more. I think everyone would benefit from doing the same.

Into The Wild
by Jon Krakauer

The was a very interesting look at some examples of people who have decided to go off into the wild to survive by themselves, for the most part wholly unprepared, and how they fared. Spoiler alert…it does not end well for any of them. In particular the book focuses on a young college graduate from Virginia who has issues with his parents and leaves home with no word to go and live alone in Alaska and live off the land. Even knowing how it ends, it’s an interesting story to follow.

Final Justice
by Fern Michaels

The book is, at its heart, a story about a women’s vigilante group. And while it had its moments, I felt that there were too many other side stores, and I don’t know if there were other books before this with these characters, but I felt the I was missing some of the back story. And over all there were just way too many characters, and the ending is not believable.
